Higher Education

One of the most important goals of the 2011-2012 Student Government Association will be an emphasis on improving Higher Education, while at the same time making sure that tuition is made affordable for every student at the University of Louisville.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is facing all-time high deficits, and as the 2012 Budget draws closer, the importance of Higher Education must be made clear to our elected officials.

Here are a few of our plans for the 2011-2012 School Year; yet, the most important voices in the fight for Higher Education are your own. Please, join us in the fight to keep college affordable by contacting Student Advocate, Blake Christopher, at the email listed below.

2011-2012 SGA Higher Education Plan of Action: A Summary

Work with SGAs from universities across the Commonwealth to make sure that the importance of Higher Education is recognized. UofL SGA President Kurtis Frizzell serves on the Kentucky Board of Student Body Presidents, and will lead the state-wide Higher Education effort.
More effective Listen Up Legislators! Listen Up Legislators! events have been successful ways of communicating the University of Louisville student message to representatives of the Kentucky State Legislature in the past; however, this year SGA plans on working harder to make sure more students participate in Listen Up Legislators! and that more student voices are heard
Bringing Legislators: To YOU! No matter how many letters we may write at a Listen Up Legislators! event, nothing is more effective than personal communication. SGA Plans to work to bring various representatives from across to state TO YOU so that you can engage them in various forums to voice your concerns and tell them why higher education is important you.
YOUR VOICE in Frankfort: SGA will develop a team of “Lobbyists” to visit Frankfort and convey your concerns to your representatives. Your voice will be heard!
Rally for Higher Education: Bigger, Better, More Effective: Due to weather conditions last year , UofL was not able to attend the Rally for Higher Education. For that reason, it is important that UofL has a strong representation at this year’s Rally, and this year’s SGA will work hard to make sure UofL is well represented.
